When you take average or below average efforts on your work, not only you're cheating to your boss but you're also cheating to yourself.
Your boss may not face that much loss by your half hearted performance but you'll be in loss for sure. Boss will be in 20-25% loss but your incomplete,below average work and half heartedly given performance will bring you really very down on the floor.
You'd soon get occupied by laziness and then you'll become habitual of doing similar level work repeatedly. Higher level work which requires more attention and efforts will become impossible for you. Your health will not support you to do so the work of such high caliber. Your self confidence gradually will come to an end and one day you'd witness and find yourself so lazy that even low caliber work will appear you to be the most difficult task.
